Turmeric is traditionally an ingredient used for cooking with, right? So why would you take it as a vitamin supplement? Turmeric tablets or curcumin tablets – curcumin being a chemical compound found in turmeric and being the active ingredient within it – have been proven to have many health benefits heralding Turmeric as a superfood. From preventing heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer, it also contains anti-inflammatories and antioxidants which have also been proven to help with symptoms of depression and arthritis, helping both mind and body. How much turmeric should I take?
Whether ingesting turmeric herb or turmeric supplements, there is no reference nutrient intake (RNI) for turmeric, however there is an RNI for curcumin. This is 3mg per kg of body weight.

Side effects of too much turmeric
Side effects of taking turmeric and turmeric capsules are rare, however when taken in large quantities, it may cause upset stomach, including diarrhoea, yellow stools, headache and rash.
